Hayley Frances is a writer, performer and facilitator with a real gift for engaging with young people. Her work for Writing West Midlands and the Birmingham Literature Festival has focused on encouraging young writers not only to produce exciting new work but also to find new ways of presenting this work to audiences and readers. The performances of the writing by young people she has worked on have been some of the most imaginative and engaging we have had the pleasure in presenting – inspired by Hayley’s ability to judge perfectly what might work best for each individual young writer.

Hayley’s eye-opening talk to our third year creative writing students on their Professional Writing Skills module was terrific. She brought not only a wealth of experience \ from performance poetry to conceptual art \ but also both practical insights and a real excitement for her work.

Chloe’s confidence has blossomed and her teacher noticed an immediate improvement in her vocabulary and sentence structure. She’s also been reading a lot more than she did prior to the workshops which is lovely: Chloe has Mieres Irlen syndrome and I suspect she also has dyslexia, so to see her engaging so readily and happily in activities that would have once been problematic is so uplifting. Honestly, I can’t put a price on what you’ve helped her achieve.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Fiona (Parent of Chloe Guy)
